James Farmer, Jr. November 1, 1938 - January 8, 2026

Son of James Farmer Sr. and Martha Herald Farmer. Survived by his son Steven Farmer, daughter-in-law Tamara Dubinsky, granddaughter Lauren Farmer, brother Jack Farmer, sisters, Kathleen Hartman, Sharon Richardson and Karen Farmer. Preceded in death by his parents, his brother John Farmer, sisters, Dorothy Braun, Ona Mae Gilbert and Evon Herald.
Jim was fiercely independent, a great basketball player in his day and most of all loved his family. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Korea. Upon retiring from Velva Sheen, Jim wanted to give back to the community that he loved. He spent the last twenty years of his life as a referee for recreational sports such as soccer, volleyball, softball and basketball. He was fair but maybe made the occasional call for family and friends. To know Jim was to like him.
A memorial gathering will be held Friday, January 23rd, from 3 – 6 pm at the Southgate VFW (6 Electric Ave, Southgate, KY 41071).

Jim was an umpire for our community girls softball program. I just learned tonight of his passing from another umpire that was close to Jim. Just wanted to send our deepest condolences to the family.

Jim was an outstanding man!! Always willing to help out if he was unavailable so that no game went
unofficiadied!! He was the most caring man and just always wanted to help out in any way possible!! You don’t see that very often and I just wanted to let y’all know what a great man that he was, in the world of umpires and referees!! I know the coaches in the Milford league preferred him umpiring the games!!!

He will be missed tremendously and we send big hugs your way 💚

Just learned of Jim’s passing and want to send prayers to his family. He officiated volleyball for the GWAC that I assigned matches for and could always count on him over and above his regular assigned matches. He was a very dependable official.
    RIP Jim 🙏
