Born in Paris, Kentucky, Susan was the beloved daughter of Paula (née Dickey) and Cecil Tankersley. She grew up with a spirited curiosity and a heart for helping others—traits that would come to define her throughout her life.
After graduating from Ludlow High School in 1964, Susan met the love of her life, Edward, who she married in 1967. She was a devoted mother to son Daniel (Toby Harris) McCarthy and daughter Erin; a cherished grandmother to Sky and Rose; sister to Cynthia Simpson; aunt to Jenny Lutes and Natalie (Chad) Paris; Sister-in-law to JoAnne McCarthy; aunt to many nieces and nephews and friend to many in the community.
Her kindness touched every life she encountered—whether through her work as a school nurse at Burlington Elementary, as a receptionist at Olsten Healthcare in Crestview Hills, or the many people she blessed with her love of crafts, both as a teacher and a gifted craftswoman. She also joyfully shared her faith in Christ as a member of the choir at the First Church of Christ in Burlington, KY. She will be remembered for her love of crafts, baking and her ability to find beauty in life’s simplest moments.
A celebration of Susan’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 21 at 11 am, at the First Church of Christ in Burlington Kentucky, 6080 Camp Ernst Rd. Burlington KY.
May her memory be a blessing and live on in our hearts.
